Designing for trust, clarity, and early conversion

Designing for trust, clarity, and early conversion

Baith Amwaal (BAM) is a faith-driven fintech startup founded by a group of friends in the UAE. It’s a Shariah-compliant group investing platform built for families and trusted communities to grow wealth together—ethically and transparently. As part of the founding team, I led the design of BAM’s first landing page. The product is still in development, but the objective was clear: establish trust within seconds, communicate BAM’s purpose with clarity, and convert curious visitors into early waitlist signups.

To resonate with our primary audience—faith-conscious users and group leaders (MAL Admins)—the design needed to strike a balance between professionalism and warmth, fintech simplicity and Islamic values, modern UI and community-driven purpose.

Challenge

Build a trust-first landing page that clearly communicates BAM's core value proposition, showcases key features and how it works, builds credibility and faith-alignment, and ultimately converts visitors into early waitlist signups.

Solution

A clean, modern landing page that introduces BAM with clarity, warmth, and professionalism. The layout is thoughtfully structured to highlight what BAM is, how it works, and why it can be trusted—building confidence within seconds. A free “Halal Investing 101” guide serves as a lead magnet, offering immediate value and encouraging early waitlist signups.

Understanding the users, the mission, and what earns trust.

Before designing the BAM landing page, I focused on understanding the users—faith-conscious families and group leaders (MAL Admins)—and what would drive them to sign up early. This meant going beyond visuals to examine what builds trust, clarity, and motivation in a faith-aligned fintech product.

I reviewed Islamic finance platforms, explored onboarding flows of similar ethical finance tools (like Wahed. Sarwa, and Zoya), and interviewed BAM’s founder to align on tone, vision, and user mindset. I also developed assumptions around user behavior, especially for first-time investors who may be new to digital tools.

Key Takeaways

  • The primary users are MAL Admins — typically trusted, middle-income family members aged 25–45, responsible for managing pooled funds.

  • Users need to understand what BAM is, how it works, and why it’s halal—all within the first 10 seconds.

  • The page had to build trust instantly, using testimonials, clear process steps, and transparent language.

  • Early visitors may be skeptical or cautious—so tone and visuals had to feel caring, respectful, and professional.

  • A free lead magnet (“Halal Investing 101”) would help educate users and nurture interest post-signup.

  • Simplicity and mobile responsiveness were crucial, especially for less tech-savvy group leaders browsing on the go.

While BAM promises a breakthrough in Shariah-compliant group investing, its story was unknown—and in early MVP stages, trust and clarity mattered more than features. Without a live product, the landing page had to do the heavy lifting: educating users, building confidence, and nudging action.

To guide the design, I crafted a user persona centered around MAL Admins (trusted family group leaders), developed a focused problem statement, and aligned on success metrics tailored to BAM’s early-stage goals.

Problem Statement

BAM’s early users lacked a clear understanding of what the platform does, how it aligns with Islamic values, and why they should trust it—leading to hesitation, missed sign-ups, and poor first impressions.

Inspired by fintech and ethical finance platforms, the UI balances clean, modern layouts with subtle spiritual cues. The result is a design that feels clear, reassuring, and built for real people—not financial elites.
